Application Support Engineer- Windows, Linux, PowerShell, SQL, Oracle, WebLogic, SCCM, Release Configuration, Root Cause Analysis- Permanent- Manchester

A hugely successful, specialist, e-commerce and digital client are looking for an Application Support Engineer to join the business as an integral part of a core technical team. As an Application Support Engineer you will be responsible for the routine maintenance of all core infrastructure solutions and high availability systems, to support BAU functionality and strong business continuity planning measures, across the application estate.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Strong educational background including a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent/industry qualifications
  • At least 5 years experience in a comparable Application Support Engineer role
  • Strong skills with core application support activities, including release management and configuration management of applications, using SCCM
  • Solid understanding of database troubleshooting
  • Strong skills with Oracle WebLogic and SQL servers to support better application hosting and scalable environments
  • Abilities to automate/schedule update and maintenance tasks using PowerShell and script commands
  • Background knowledge of systems administration and routine technical tasks



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Take a leading role in the BAU maintenance of the technical application estate, configuring updates in existing application suites, and managing the integration and release of new applications
  • Liaise with other technical teams including development, to coordinate the production and implementation of new applications
  • Manage all application outages and ensure that appropriate troubleshooting, disaster recovery and business continuity plans exists to minimize down time
  • Work with core Oracle and SQL technologies to support strong application hosting environments
  • Provide subject matter expertise in Windows and Linux based applications, and best practices around deployment, configuration management and automation of maintenance
  • Provide abilities across core systems administration tasks when required
  • Use scripting commands in PowerShell to batch process routine tasks

    The Role

    The candidate will be responsible development of new features and maintenance for our server side pricing, aggregation, control and contributions platforms using a variety of programming languages and development environments. In particular, the candidate will be developing predominantly in C and C# with some Java as well.
