McGregor Boyall are currently recruiting for an AWS Cloud Platform Lead for a leading FS client based in Edinburgh.

This is an exciting opportunity to use your technical expertise to collaborate with colleagues and build effortless, digital first customer experiences.

Participating actively in the data engineering community, you’ll deliver opportunities to support the strategic direction of the business while building your network across the bank

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate technical and people leadership to drive value for the customer through data science platform engineering using Cloud technologies.

  • You’ll be working closely with core technology, architecture teams and data scientists to deliver strategic data solutions, while driving Agile and DevOps adoption in the delivery of data science and engineering platforms.
  • You’ll have a wealth of experience working with AWS and as such you will be able to demonstrate your expertise with Terraform/ Cloudformation.
  • You’ll be an expert level, hands on, AWS Architect and Developer with a qualification in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
  • You will be an excellent communicator regularly collaborating with data scientists and other key stake holders.

Your key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Architect, design and develop AWS based Data Science platform / library implementations
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of the bank's data structures, metrics, and processes needed for product development
  • Lead a small engineering team to manage a bank wide insourcing solution use for data science platform development
  • Work closely with data scientists, other data science platform teams to define and manage the roadmap to solutions.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Educational qualification in Science or Software Engineering / Comp Science
  • Excellent hands on design and development experience on common AWS services for Networking, Compute, Data and File Storage, Serverless architecture, notifications and messaging / streaming tools
  • Strong experience in Unix/Linux, Terraform, Python/Pyspark and CI CD tools both on-premise and cloud offerings
  • Experience in data science engineering implementations and awareness of development methodologies
  • Awareness of Big Data technologies and AWS data science tools like Sagemaker, EMR Clusters would be highly desirable
  • Knowledge of any data engineering tools such as Glue, Kafka, Scala, IDEs like Visual Studio/Pycharm/Intellij, NoSQL and MongoDB
  • A good understanding of modern automation and development practice

    The role

    As a remote DevOps Engineer, you will join the Azure Technology team of a multi-cloud services company. You will help provide consultative, architectural, program and engineering support for our customers' journeys to the cloud.

    You will deliver technical solutions using cutting edge technologies and industry best practices to implement Azure cloud platforms for its customers.

    The responsibilities

    • Demonstrate a broad set of technical skills including Azure Infrastructure and administration (ARM templates).
    • Enable the rest of the technical team to adopt a DevOps culture by helping them to onboard best practices into their work-streams.
    • Work with the Architects to tackle a backlog for growing the DevOps practices of release management, infrastructure automation, build automation, version control.

    Essential experience

    • DevOps Engineer experience (or something similar)

    • Experience working in a Microsoft Azure cloud environment

    • Scripting ability (ideally PowerShell)

    • Orchestration experience (Kubernetes)

    Desirable experience

    The Opportunity

    • This role is responsible for delivering all aspects of financial advice across functions to ensure the provision of comprehensive support to all levels of management and Members.     • Accountable for all financial aspects of medium term business planning, advising Directors, Politicians and Stakeholders on strategic financial performance management, pricing and investment analysis
    • Lead on the provision of insightful long term predictive analytics, optimising financial modelling and commercial acumen to support business development and income improvements across the organisation.

    • Support the timely preparation of complex business cases outlining associated costs, benefits, risks and funding solutions whilst being solely accountable for the financial implications.
    • Lead financial impact assessments relating to changes in legislation, service initiatives or formal partnership arrangements.
    • Be a sector leader for finance, networked with best in class peers and embed new skills & learning to drive performance improvements.
    • Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.

    The Experience You Will Bring

    • Full CCAB / CIMA qualification with minimum of 2 years post qualification experience and evidence of continuing professional development .
    • Experience in application of financial management and financial frameworks in a large organisation, preferably public sector, through a full financial cycle.
    • Essential evidence of providing financial advice to inform complex decision making.
    • Evidence of direct influence in improving financial systems and processes.
    • Experience of evaluating and supporting innovative and effective means of financing the long term delivery of large scale services.
    • Demonstrate significant experience of working with and influencing members and / or executives, as well as, multi-disciplinary teams to achieve service outcomes.
    • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards.
    • Extensive experience of strong leadership skills and ability to demonstrate credibility, promoting good financial management practice within the business.
