Java/Scala Developer - Greenfield Trade Data Platform
American investment banking firm seeks a Senior Scala Develper for a permanent position paying up to £125,000, within their Global Markets Technology team based in London.
The company have moved from traditional application aligned software delivery methods to highly agile cross functional and component teams and are looking for a talented Scala developer to help in this move.
This is a development-centric role and you will be expected to deliver technical solutions by using some of the market leading technologies such as Java, Scala, and Oracle, SQL.
Responsibilities
- You will be a key figure within the London team collaborating with a number of teams in other regions, working within an Agile team, writing requirements and specification (e.g. automated tests), developing relationships across the technology and user communities. In addition, you will be crucial in making sure we are always focusing on the delivery of value and high quality code.
- As the successful applicant, you will be responsible for supporting modern agile software development methods; including educating & mentoring less experienced OOP team members and working with teams across London and other regions.
Core Skills:
Strong Java/Scala development skills
Experience in writing optimized SQL queries
Good understanding of unit testing concepts
Strong understanding of software build/ release management skills
Familiarity with development patterns
Experience with projects in multiple technologies and functions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven experience in building scalable and robust applications
Technical Skills Desired-
- Python programming skills
- Familiarity with RDF and SPARQL
- Understanding of Reference Data domain
- Familiarity with Big Data technologies such as Apache Hadoop

Project Manager - Digital Delivery
McGregor Boyall are currently recruiting a contract Project Manager for our financial services client based in Edinburgh.
This is initially a 6 month contract and is inside IR35.
You will be accountable for tracking and communicating progress of Digital Development deliveries; providing timely and accurate reporting of delivery resources, activities, and risk, informing decision-making to meet departmental commitments.
As a key member of the Digital Development team, you will work closely with various stakeholders including delivery squads, architects and and managers of dependent projects.
Must have experince in delivering projects in the web, apps and digital delivery space.
Key Responsibilities will include (not limited to):
- Engaging with delivery squad Scrum Masters to track team backlog items and map these to product and technical roadmaps..

- Experience with a range of software delivery paradigms including (Agile methodologies and ceremony, DevOps patterns and practises, principles of product delivery queues and flow)
- Working knowledge of web-based work management platforms (ideally Azure DevOps)
- Confident and competent user of Microsoft productivity tooling (Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
- Familiar with software delivery concepts (Cloud architectures and environments, front-end and back-end services, quality assurance in a continuous integration and deployment context)
- Good experience in managing the delivery of complex software solutions (ideally within a financial services environment)
- Proven ability to establish strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Strong and effcetive communicator able to effectively liaise with both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Excellent verbal and written skills
This role offers hybrid working with visits to the Edinburgh office a couple of times a month.
