The purpose of the Project Leader role is to drive, oversee and lead a team of 60+ qualified lawyers and paralegals to delivery excellent client service. You would also be required to successfully deliver and assist others in the delivery of transactional and contentious matter work on instruction from the Practice and support the strategic development of the team and personal development of its members

What we are looking for


  • Adopts a team-orientated approach and prepared to assist clients and colleagues (out of normal office hours) to meet deadlines

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to demonstrate strong commitment to maintaining high levels of customer service

  • Experience working within a paralegal role and leading a paralegal team in a Magic circle firm or similar



Expectations of the role


  • Effectively manage delivery team, including reporting, process implementation and quality control

  • Ensure that there is adequate project management, supervision and participation in projects/tasks, from inception to completion

  • Ensure Paralegals & Support Lawyers Manager is made aware of all tasks/projects and the approach to delivery is discussed and approved Support Lawyers Manager and working with the London Paralegals & Support Lawyers Manager to address these

  • Share knowledge and expertise to ensure the successful delivery of tasks/projects

  • Keep up to date with developments by attending seminars/presentations on relevant services and technology, ensuring knowledge is shared and training is provided to all team members

  • Fluctuating headcount responsibility of approximately 60+ paralegals and support lawyers (this may grow with time)

  • Monitor team performance, actively seek and act on feedback

  • Adopt and ensure the team adhere to all commercial / financial discipline requirements such as time recording, billing etc.

  • Communicate effectively with team recognising diverse working styles and different pressure points

  • Lead by example, showing flexibility by adapting style when appropriate

  • Manage the expectations and interests of multiple practice stakeholders and provide specialist advice tailored to individual needs of the client

  • Meeting of team and personal utilisation targets, ensuring any decision which may impact these targets is discussed and agreed with the Manager

  • Demonstrating strong people skills which are critical to the success of the team e.g. ensuring there is cross-team cooperation, a “one team” approach and maintaining a supportive working environment

  • Ensuring best practice guidelines and policies are adhered to e.g. adoption of suggestions arising out of previous audits, risk policies and professionalism guideline



Experience required


  • 2:1 Degree (or equivalent) and completed LPC/BPTC or qualified lawyer

  • Proven experience of managing people in a legal environment and successfully delivering projects, ideally in Contentious/Transactional matter work

  • Able to prioritise quickly, often in busy periods, in a calm manner

  • Sound understanding of the legal market
