Overview

McGregor Boyall are searching for a platform operations’ engineer to work for one of our clients in London. This is a great opportunity for someone to enter the world of blockchain, or for someone who is already in the world of blockchain, to take their next step.

Our client’s platform is already being used in industries from financial services to healthcare, shipping, insurance and more. It records, manages, executes institutions’ financial agreements in perfect synchrony with their peers, creating a world of frictionless commerce.

The Operations Engineers will be responsible for the upkeep, configuration and reliable operation of production, testing, staging and QA environments running the platform plus any associated toolsets, such as DataDog, PagerDuty etc. The Engineer will seek to ensure that the uptime, performance, availability and security of those environments and associated resources is maintained to industry standards – 99.999% availability, SOC2 compliant etc.

You will work alongside, and support their customers, the business, development, Dev Ops, Security Ops and other technical teams – therefore being a team player, having a great personality, a sense of humour, being able to work under pressure, being empathetic towards different cultures, communicating effectively and hitting deadlines are all paramount to success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Rapidly install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools for all environments under change control/configuration management.
  • Quickly and correctly diagnose issues with environments, including identifying patterns that could indicate a security threat.
  • Support the execution of tests and other activities on testing environments, including liaising with customers and associated project management and planning.
  • Deploy and operate internal/external testing environments.
  • Create, update and own environment configuration documentation.
  • Ensure parity between environments, where applicable.
  • Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure.
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes.
  • Maintain and operate security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of current technologies and trends in networking, hosting, operations.
  • Liaise with vendors, customers, team members and other IT personnel for problem resolution.

Requirements

  • Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX /Linuxbased environments, preferably for a financial services institution
  • Solid experience in the administration and performance tuning of Javaapplication stacks
  • Solid Cloud experience, preferably in Azure
  • Experience with monitoring systems (DataDog, Graphite/Grafana)
  • Experience with automation software (preferably Ansible)
  • Experience with central logging systems (preferably ELK)
  • Experience of deploying, using and managing the Atlassian tool set (Jira, Service Desk etc).
  • Experience with virtualization and containerization
  • Solid scripting skills (Shell, Python)
  • Solid networkingknowledge
  • Solid understanding and experience of securityengineering
  • Deep and broad understanding of computer science and engineering principles, most likely obtained through significant professional experience
  • Experience with one or more blockchain technologies desirable, but not essential

    Regulatory Reporting Accountant

    Our client, a commercial banking organization with a global presence, is seeking a strong Regulatory Reporting professional to join their London branch. The role will take responsibility for a wide range of regulatory returns, with a specific focus on COREP.

    • Reconcile balance sheet on periodic basis
    • Keep up to date developments and changes in regulatory issues
    • Analyse and help with the implement new legislation
    • Cover for other team members when required
    • Other ad hoc assignments



    Key Requirements

    • Part qualification (ACCA, ACA preferred) with strong academic background in quantitative disciplines such as Mathematics, Economics, Finance or Engineering
    • Ability to work under pressure, if necessary, under deadline-driven conditions
    • Strong Regulatory reporting background - Experience with COREP is essential
    • Experience within a banking organization or a similar financial institution
    • Exposure to regulatory reporting and awareness of regulatory reporting rules
    • Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision within a team structure
    • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (especially Ms Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Excellent writing skills
    • Good listening and communication skills
    • Through working style and excellent attention to detail
    • Fast learner with good problem-solving skills
