Security Engineer - Permanent - Newcastle

Job Purpose

The security engineer’s role is responsible for the technical ownership of all aspects of product design, pertaining to product and cyber security. This includes ensuring all products follow secure-by-design principles, as well as technical development ownership of multiple Cyber Security initiatives, including the Intrusion Detection Solution portfolio and its ongoing enhancement.

The role will incorporate hands-on development, integration and customisation within the security context. It will involve working closely with Development colleagues, as well as multiple other internal organisations including Product Management and the CSO team. The role may also incorporate some Cyber Security standards efforts and interaction with external groups including customers and 3rd party partners.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Security reviews for new and existing products and services
  • Input to the secure architecture design
  • Responsible for the continued evolution of the Secure-by-Design development approach and documentation of the company policy
  • Implementation and maintenance of security features on existing and new, products and platforms
  • Customisation and/or integration of 3rd party security solutions
  • Development lead for security products and features
  • Security guidance documentation
  • Participation / advising in selection of future security products
  • Threat modelling
  • Penetration testing & vulnerability research [internal]
  • Security training and outreach to internal teams
  • Security tool development
  • Working closely with Product Management and CSO teams

Qualification & Experience Requirements

  • Experience specifying and implementation of security solutions including IDS and SIEM
  • An understanding of network and web related protocols (such as TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP, HTTPS, routing protocols etc)
  • A strong understanding of TLS and certificate management
  • An understanding of web services, mobile applications, cryptography, and penetration testing
  • Experience with multiple programming languages (such as, Java, C, Python, Rust, etc.)
  • Worked in an Agile environment (bi-weekly scrum meetings, JIRA ticket-based activity)
  • An understanding of the Linux environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable teamwork skills and resourcefulness

    Our client, a Tier 1 investment banking group is seeking an experienced Basel III Developer to join the team based in the London.

    Inside IR35 – PAYE ONLY

    Required experience:

    • The Finance Change Delivery Reporting & Consolidation Developer leads change, analysis, design, configuration and development of solutions, working closely with the Bank’s Cloud Services Providers (e.g. Google, Microsoft).
    • The key objective of this role is to develop the solutions and capability of Finance Cloud Framework to support the Basel 3 Reforms, Financial Actuals and Finance on the Cloud Programmes.

    Technical skills:

    • Cloud technology and services, most importantly Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure
