Senior Technical Accountant
Location: London

The Technical Accounting Team is part of Group Finance and is responsible for ensuring compliance with IFRS and other statutory/regulatory requirements. This involves the provision of transaction-focused solutions, technical accounting determinations, hands-on implementation and business partnering skills.

The Team is responsible for implementing new accounting standards and for maintaining the Group accounting policy manual, but a large proportion of the work involves determining the accounting for significant one-off transactions such as business combinations/M&A and legal entity reorganisations. The Team provides pragmatic and robust accounting advice to senior management, the divisions/businesses and other departments. The Team also delivers technical accounting training and works closely with the reporting and consolidation teams.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting and writing skills as a baseline, but will couple this with pragmatism, communication, project management and leadership skills.

Principle Objectives and Responsibilities include the following (other objectives may be assigned):

Technical Accounting

  • Preparation and review of IFRS reporting and technical accounting papers;
  • Advise, support and consult stakeholders in relation to technical accounting and policy issues, and provide technical expertise on complex accounting issues;
  • Support the Group's reporting processes, including development of the IFRS financial statement proforma and advice on preparing external disclosure notes;
  • Liaison with auditors on technical accounting issues;
  • Support and communicate the development, setting and maintenance of IFRS financial accounting and reporting policies group-wide, including technical input to the Group accounting policy manual;
  • Interpret and implement new IFRS developments/standards, including assisting with the project management and oversight of significant changes in standards impacting the Group;
  • Provide internal and ad-hoc training and advice on technical accounting, new developments and standards; and
  • Provide technical accounting support to ongoing and new projects.

Knowledge and Skills Required - must be clearly demonstrated on CV


  • ACA accounting qualification, or overseas equivalent;
  • Proven technical knowledge of IFRS accounting standards.

Finance Business Partner

£50000 - £55000 per annum


As part of the Financial Planning and Analysis Finance team, this role will consist of Finance business partnering with the Functions – HR, Risk & Compliance, Finance, Audit, Legal to provide best in class Finance support to the Director of each Function and their teams


  • Providing analytical support to new business initiatives. Assessing and contributing to business cases for tactical and strategic investments in any Function and monitoring progress and benefits realisation.
  • Providing analytical support for new (or renewed) contracts with major suppliers of any Function
  • Ensuring all budgets and plans for each Function are produced in a timely manner and to quality required for submission to executive committees and the Board of directors.
  • Managing the production of the monthly financial MI (including insightful, actionable commentary) for each Function by working day 3 of each month.
  • Managing a view of financial risks and opportunities within each Function’s cost base on an ongoing basis.
  • Creating analytical insight to help identify opportunities to drive change and improve efficiency (including driving revenues, reducing costs) within each Function
  • Documentation of key Finance processes including identification of key controls


The incumbent will have an opportunity to help create a best in class Finance business partnering model and to drive real impacts in the key Functions of the business.

Knowledge and experience requirements


  • Minimum 3 years as a Management Accountant or a similar Finance role partnering a Function team
  • Experience working within the credit card and/or banking industry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


  • Excel at Macro level desirable.


  • Degree – ideally in quantitative subject eg Mathematics, Accounting or Statistics
