Simon Ranahan in "The Roar of Singapore"

On the 27th May 2017 McGregor Boyall’s Simon Ranahan will be stepping into the Ring to take part in the Ringstar Corporate Boxing Championship, part of the international Boxing Event “The Roar of Singapore II.”

As well as featuring a full Professional Card, including 4 UBO World Title Fights, 2 Intercontinental Titles and 4 Regional Titles, the Roar of Singapore provides the people of Singapore and neighbouring countries with the opportunity to step into the ring and experience what it is like to fight on a world class professional championship boxing card!

McGregor Boyall’s very own Simon Ranahan has stepped up to the challenge and will be heading to the ring for one night only! Simon boxed at a few local clubs in Bristol as a youngster but never really took it that seriously. When he moved to Sydney in 2003 he joined a Boxing and Muay Thai Club called the Black Belt Pro, where he boxed for fitness and conditioning.

However, aside from a few sparring sessions he has never seriously stepped into the ring. Until now!

The Roar of Singapore is about bringing the boxing community together for one amazing event, with Corporate, Amateur and Professional Fighters all competing on the same card. So, when one of the corporate heavyweights had to drop out and Simon was asked if he wanted to take part – how could he possibly refuse?!

He has spent nearly three months getting into the shape of his life, training for up to 3 hours a day at the Spartans Boxing Club in Singapore, whilst also juggling a demanding job and busy family life. According to Simon the Club “is an amazing place that welcomes everyone and has taken him from a near couch potato to someone ready for a competitive boxing match in just 10 weeks!”

Simon will be fighting Markus Kraft, a shipping and logistics professional who has been boxing for the last year or so. Let’s see who comes out on top!

The Roar of Singapore is hosted by Resorts World Sentosa, giving the fighters and fans the real Las Vegas atmosphere. The Event will be broadcast to over 100 million people across South East Asia and selected countries in the APAC Regions, and will be feature in a 6-episode Sports TV Series on the Eleven Sports Network.

Good luck Simon!

So, what is in store for the next 5 years? “More of the same please” said Boyall. “I am looking forward to a period of sustained growth characterised by continuing profitability based on delivering high-quality, innovative services.”

McGregor Boyall celebrates 30 years in recruitment

London, 2nd February 2017: Global recruitment specialist McGregor Boyall are delighted to be celebrating 30 years of excellence in recruitment this week, and will be running a series of events throughout the year to mark the occasion.

When McGregor Boyall first opened its doors in January 1987, many of its current employees hadn’t even been born. No internet, job boards or social media. It was all about the phone, sacks of envelopes and if you were lucky – a fax machine!

“In those days a fax machine was considered a real luxury” commented Group CEO and Founder Laurie Boyall. “and a phone strike meant that the business very nearly didn’t get off the ground at all!”

Fast-forward 30 years and McGregor Boyall is one of the UK’s leading independent recruitment businesses with three UK offices and two international offices servicing their global client base.  Add to this an impressive PSL list and extensive client base, McGregor Boyall is a name that is synonymous with quality and excellence in the recruitment space. So what is the key to such long standing success in an extremely challenging sector?

“Our secret is to respond quickly to change in the recruitment environment” said Boyall “Since our inception we have been committed to a flexible, high-quality, low-risk contingency-based operating model and we have firmly established ourselves as a trustworthy partner for both clients and candidates to turn to.”

Charlie Luckhoo, McGregor Boyall’s Director of Financial Services added “McGregor Boyall’s long standing success is certainly due, in part, to our ability to adapt to the ever changing recruitment landscape, but is also testament to Laurie who has steered the company through three recessions and continues to drive the business forward and embrace the challenges that inevitably come our way.”

McGregor Boyall will be marking this fantastic milestone throughout the year with a series of events and celebrations. In a sector that has seen thousands of companies come and go and different operating models impacting traditional recruitment agencies, to have not only survived, but to have grown into a truly respected and established business is certainly an achievement to be proud of!

McGregor Boyall launches 2017 Market Insights & Salary Guides

“Why don’t they give us what we want?”

London 12th January 2017: Flexible working and a good work-life balance are the factors valued most by employees, yet are ranked down in fourth place for employers according to the latest research from global recruitment specialists McGregor Boyall.

The 2017 Market Insights Report and Salary Guides highlights that a shortage of quality candidates continues to be a key concern for businesses, yet there is still a disparity between what companies see as key motivators for attracting top talent and what candidates say are the factors most likely to influence them when choosing a new role.

With 55% of candidates surveyed stating they are likely or very likely to be looking for a move in 2017 employers need to begin to address this disparity and find ways to offer candidates what they really want if they are going to attract and retain the top talent.

The report also highlights that we are yet to really see the impact of the Brexit vote, with 70% of employers surveyed stating they have seen little to no impact on their businesses so far, and 73% of candidates stating that the result will have no bearing on whether they change roles or not in 2017.

Commenting on the report, Laurie Boyall, Group CEO at McGregor Boyall said “With Article 50 yet to be triggered it will be a while before we see the true impact of the UK’s decision to leave the EU. In the meantime, market nervousness looks set to remain and businesses will continue to face talent challenges over the next 12 months.

It is however encouraging for our industry that candidates looking for a move still have a strong preference for the security and additional support of utilising recruitment agencies, with 82% stating that would be their preferred method of sourcing their next opportunity.”

London, 8th February 2016: The latest Market Insights Report from global recruitment specialists McGregor Boyall suggests that businesses will have to do more in 2016 to retain their top talent. It looks set to be a tough year for employers with over 60% of clients surveyed believing there is a shortage of top talent and just over half of candidates stating that they are likely to be looking for a new role in 2016.

The Report also highlights that whilst remuneration will always be a key driver for candidates, having a good work life balance and flexible working opportunities are increasingly important, and employers that are able to offer these will be more likely to attract and retain the top talent.

Commenting on the report, Sarah Greensmith, Business Head for IT, HR and Procurement at McGregor Boyall said “We are now seeing up to 5 generations in the work place for the first time which is presenting interesting challenges for businesses. The question is, are businesses adaptable and flexible enough to meet the needs of their long serving employees whilst also appealing to the new generation of workers who have different expectations and ways of working?”

And while candidates still apply to organisations directly there is a strong preference for the security and additional support of utilising recruitment agencies, with 78% stating that would be their preferred method of sourcing their next opportunity. Using LinkedIn and Online Job boards came in second and third respectively.
