PMO Manager

One of our public sector clients is looking for an experienced PMO to join their team on a 12-month contract basis. You manage the provision of PMO services, ensuring successful design, set-up, delivery, and closure of projects/programmes, aligned with best practices and organisational ways of working.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Governance & Planning: Collaborate with Programme/Project Managers to establish governance, planning, and financial management processes. Monitor risks, issues, dependencies, and milestones, ensuring project alignment and timely delivery.
  • Reporting: Own and deliver accurate progress reports, tracking benefits, schedule, and financial status for senior stakeholders. Prepare documentation and actions for steering groups and programme boards.
  • Support & Administration: Provide practical support for project teams, ensure effective document control, and manage recruitment and onboarding of team members. Lead procurement processes and support programme assurance activities.

Essential Experience:

  • A recognised PMO or project management qualification (e.g., P3O, PRINCE2, MSP, APMP/PQ level).
  • Extensive experience in a PMO role with strong expertise in project planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Demonstrable experience in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and tracking benefits - resource scheduling would be preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage risks, issues, and changes in a structured environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and report to senior stakeholders.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (including MS Project) and familiarity with project management tools.
  • Previous experience in a major, large-scale organisation working on multi-stream programmes is necessary given the size of this client and project.

Duration: 12 months

Location: London, Salford, Cardiff, Birmingham (but must be willing to travel to London frequently

Working model: 2 days per week onsite

Day rate: up to £500 per day inside ir35
