Job Title: Senior Buyer - Commodities
Contract: 12 months

Location: Gaydon (hybrid/ 2 days per week onsite)

Day rate: circa £290 inside ir35


This is a pivotal global procurement role, reporting to the Procurement Manager and holding end-to-end responsibility for specific commodities.

You will act as a central interface between procurement and multiple internal functions, ensuring sourcing strategies align with programme, cost, capacity, and quality objectives while representing the business professionally with suppliers and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver Strategic Commodity Dossiers and Commodity Business Plans
  • Lead global sourcing activities through the Global Sourcing Process to contract award
  • Develop and run commodity strategies aligned to business, market, and supplier insights
  • Lead supplier negotiations, contracting, and supplier performance management
  • Drive cost target achievement pre- and post-contract award using TCO/TVO principles
  • Manage supplier relationships globally, including Supplier Business Reviews
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, finance, manufacturing, and programme teams
  • Oversee capacity planning, supply chain risk management, and compliance activities
  • Ensure effective handover to regional teams following sourcing decisions

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience in procurement or a related field
  • Proven ability to create and deliver robust, long-term procurement strategies
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in cost management and negotiation
  • Results-driven, resilient, and able to operate independently in a complex environment
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to translate data and analytics into clear recommendations
  • Strong team player who actively supports collaboration and continuous improvement

  • Confidence to challenge existing thinking constructively while building trust and credibility
