Modular Delivery Engineer

Location: London
Department: Pre-Construction
Reporting to: Head of Modular Delivery

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Modular Delivery Engineer to join a growing engineering and modular delivery team, supporting the development and implementation of innovative modular MEP solutions across both tender and live construction projects.

This role will play a key part throughout the project lifecycle, identifying opportunities to optimise building services through modular construction, Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) and offsite prefabrication.

Working closely with pre-construction, engineering, design and project delivery teams, you will assess project requirements, develop technical solutions and ensure modular strategies deliver improvements in efficiency, cost, buildability and sustainability.

The successful candidate will work across multiple projects, managing technical interfaces and maintaining strong communication between all stakeholders involved in the design, manufacture and installation process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical engineering support to pre-construction, estimating and bid teams.

  • Review project drawings, specifications, technical reports and design information to identify opportunities for modular MEP solutions.

  • Identify and develop modular strategies aligned with project requirements, constraints and client objectives.

  • Prepare and raise Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify technical requirements and resolve design uncertainties.

  • Develop innovative modular concepts that improve efficiency, buildability and overall project value.

  • Produce cost estimates for modular solutions in collaboration with estimating and commercial teams.

  • Review and contribute to structural, architectural and MEP designs to ensure effective integration of modular installations.

  • Assess, review and provide technical guidance on modular framework designs.

  • Prepare technical submissions and supporting documentation for project approvals and compliance.

  • Compile structural analysis information packs to support engineering design validation.

  • Review structural analysis reports and provide technical feedback and recommendations.

  • Maintain an understanding of structural steelwork sizing, material availability and associated cost implications.

  • Review turnkey package designs to ensure alignment with DfMA principles and modular delivery strategies.

  • Manage technical interfaces between design, engineering, manufacturing and installation teams.

  • Ensure effective communication and information exchange throughout the modular delivery process.

  • Capture and implement lessons learned to support continuous improvement.

  • Review completed module installations against structural verification reports to ensure compliance.

  • Identify potential design, manufacturing and installation challenges and develop practical solutions.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification, with relevant industry experience.

  • Strong technical understanding of modular construction, structural engineering and MEP interfaces.

  • Experience developing or delivering modular MEP, DfMA or prefabricated engineering solutions.

  • Proficiency in Autodesk Navisworks, Revizto or similar model review and coordination platforms.

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Bluebeam and associated technical software.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Understanding of technical documentation and project information management processes.

  • Ability to challenge traditional design approaches and identify opportunities for engineering optimisation.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to design rationalisation and MEP optimisation.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical documentation.

  • Commercial and sustainability awareness, with an understanding of project cost, efficiency and material considerations.

  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and contribute effectively within a wider engineering team.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge or experience across both Mechanical and Electrical engineering disciplines.

  • Familiarity with document management platforms such as Aconex, Kahua or Asite.

  • Previous experience delivering modular, DfMA or offsite prefabrication solutions across multiple construction sectors.

  • Experience working within pre-construction, technical design or modular engineering delivery teams.

  • Understanding of structural verification, steelwork design and modular installation methodologies.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a technically minded engineer with a strong understanding of MEP systems and modular construction principles.

You should be comfortable reviewing complex project information, identifying opportunities for modularisation and developing practical engineering solutions that improve project delivery.

The ideal candidate will combine engineering knowledge with commercial awareness, creative problem-solving and the ability to coordinate effectively across multiple disciplines.

Experience within modular MEP, offsite manufacturing, prefabrication or DfMA-led construction projects will be particularly valuable.
